The Center for Data Science and Public Policy is a joint center between the Harris School of Public Policy and the Computation Institute focused on research in data science and public policy, applied research projects with government and non-profit partners to solve high-impact social problems, and creating scalable, data-driven systems for improving public policy in areas such as public health, education, public safety, criminal justice, and economic development.
We bring together data scientists, researchers, and practitioners from Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Public Policy passionate about using computational, data-driven methods to improve public policy and making an impact. We run the Data Science for Social Good Summer Fellowship and some of our recent projects have included working with Chicago Department of Public Health on reducing lead poisoning among children, working with police departments across the country on Early Intervention Systems to prevent adverse interactions between police and the public, building data platforms and resources to improve employment outcomes, and working with counties across the country to improve the criminal justice system.
